EDEN

Eden is a unique game because it revolves around striking the balance between competitive success and respect for the environment. In order for teams to be successful they will need to modify their behaviour, adapt their attitude and co-ordinate their actions.

Teams share a common goal: to build a sustainable community which is represented by 3D plates. For a community to be sustainable, both land and water (both represented in similar 3D plates) are also required.

In order for teams to obtain these community, land, and water plates, they will require resources, which are earned by completing a variety of different social, ecological, and cultural tasks and challenges, spread between 20 cities around the world.  The tasks and challenges that accompany the game are all quick-fire, bespoke and standalone, specifically covering such issues as disability, environmental concerns, social awareness, cultural protocol, national identity, pollution and the 3 R’s (Reuse, Recycle, and Repair). The activities are deliberately designed to appeal to different skill sets to broaden the spectrum of participant engagement.

At the beginning of your event a professional presenter introduces the objective of the game and tells the teams about the two main tools they will be using throughout the challenge; the Emissions Gauge, and the Master Route Planner.

EMMISIONS GUAGE

The Emissions Gauge is a huge, visual and modern balancing scale. It depicts the ever-changing balance between the positive and negative influences generated by teams through the actions that they are taking during the game.

It’s important for teams to keep their eye on the Emissions Gauge throughout the game because their actions (and the actions of the teams around them) will ultimately have an impact on the options available to them and their success.  Teams must work in unison to keep emissions in a healthy balance otherwise the consequences of their actions will be immediate and severe.

MASTER ROUTE PLANNER

The Master Route Planner is a large, graphic representation of the route teams can take around the world to complete the tasks. Each team also has their own hand held copy. (This part of the game looks similar to the London Underground type route maps.)

Teams can choose to travel either by surface or air. Air travel uses fewer resources than surface travel, but contributes 3 times more “pollution” towards the Emissions Gauge!

As the environment deteriorates consequent to the teams decisions on travel, so the illuminated light on the Emissions Gauge moves towards the red danger zone, thus illustrating that individual decisions and actions have an effect that impacts everyone. Should the first red light illuminate, Impact Cards are drawn that affect everyone negatively.

A representative from each team is them invited to a Forum, similar to a “G8 Summit” to agree an urgent remedial agenda. Should the second red light illuminate, drawn impact cards remain irreversible!
