Rolls Royce recently held a conference for approximately 100 senior leaders working throughout their business. They were looking for some fun and engaging corporate team building event ideas to run at the end of their day. The chosen team building activity would run into the early evening and naturally, Rolls Royce wanted the activity to be fun and engaging for the participants, a majority of which were from an engineering background.
The final choice was Fantasy Formula 1 and it went down an absolute storm!
The event took place in the Executive Centre at Wyboston Lakes which is a fantastic meeting and conference venue in Bedford. Wyboston Lakes has two purpose built event venues (the Executive Centre and the Training Centre) as well as a hotel and spa. Combined, these facilities offer over 60 meeting/event spaces and in excess of 400 bedrooms, as well as over 350 acres of grounds and even a fully equipped water sports centre if you are feeling a little more adventurous! With such great facilities it is easy to see why Rolls Royce chose Wybsoton Lakes and why it is such a great choice for corporate away days.
Fantasy Formula 1 is one of our most popular team building activities, is totally hands on, and can be run indoors or outdoors. Typically the event last for around 3 hours although this can be shortened if time is tight, making it ideal for a morning, afternoon, or even evening event. During this Formula 1 inspired team building activity, teams are provided with a variety of raw materials and a set of blueprints, and are challenged to construct their very own F1 car.
Once the teams have finished building their vehicles, they will be put to the ultimate test in a series of head to head races to see who will take top place on the podium! Naturally there are plenty of opportunities for teams to embellish the design of their vehicles and put their own stamp on their creations.
As this event was run at the end of the day and in to the early evening, participants would also be having some food halfway through building their cars. Although this is not typically how the activity is run, in this instance it worked really well and required the teams to manage their time smartly in order to finish their build on time.
Everyone got stuck in to the challenge straight away and construction was fast and furious with some of the teams making great progress early on. Working to a tight timescale (and making sure all team members were fed) the teams worked together brilliantly to create their Formula 1 masterpieces ready for the final head to head races!
Once all of the teams had finished their builds, the room was cleared to make way for our temporary race track and the final showdown was on! A series of head to head drag races (with the cars driven and pushed by the teams of course) provided us with a winning team who took top place on the Rolls Royce Fantasy Formula 1 podium!
